Codi
Codi has always had a special place in her heart for all animals and is honored to be able to get to see so many different kinds of animals each day and meet so many great people along the way. If all jobs were paid the same salary, she would choose a career that involves working with animals.
Codi’s personality closely matches that of a Golden Retriever. She is willing to spend more money on two things to get the best quality: her kiddos and body care like sugar scrubs and lotions.
Outside of work, Codi likes to spend time with her children. She also has two cats, Penelope and Milo.
Ashley
Veterinary Assistant
Ashley has been working as a Veterinary Assistant at AVC since March 2024. She got her first taste of hard work bussing tables at her family’s restaurant, Runyan’s Black Angus, where sticky ketchup bottles taught her early lessons in perseverance.
Ashley would jump at the chance to meet the legendary horses from Hidalgo – she admires their strength and spirit. While she dreamed of becoming a veterinarian as a child, she’s found equal fulfillment caring for animals in her current role.
Ashley lives by the advice: “Don’t take criticism from someone you wouldn’t ask for advice.” This philosophy helps her stay focused on meaningful feedback while pursuing her passions – whether that’s animal care, music, or photography.
These days, her personal goals include learning to play the banjo and capturing the perfect shot of cows’ eyelashes as a livestock photographer.
Vanessa
Veterinary Assistant
Vanessa joined Animal Veterinary Clinic as a Veterinary Assistant in July 2024, bringing with her a unique combination of customer service excellence and animal care expertise. Her professional foundation was built at Chick-fil-A, where as a front-of-house employee she developed the interpersonal skills that now serve her well in comforting pet owners and assisting veterinary staff.
From childhood, Vanessa aspired to become a veterinarian, a dream inspired in part by her admiration for Cisco, the magnificent horse from Dances With Wolves. She frequently comments on the animal’s striking appearance and impressive performance, seeing in him the perfect combination of beauty and capability that she strives to recognize in all animals.
Beyond the clinic walls, Vanessa pursues an active outdoor lifestyle with ambitions to hunt and fish across North America and attend numerous horseback field dog trials. She remains committed to furthering her education with the goal of earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. Guiding both her professional and personal journey is her firm belief that “everything happens for a reason,” a philosophy that helps her navigate challenges with perspective and resilience.
While fully dedicated to veterinary medicine, Vanessa maintains strong interests in wildlife conservation and specialized canine training. Her alternate career considerations—including work in North American wildlife preservation or training hunting, performance, and detection dogs—reflect her deep connection to animals in both domestic and wild settings. Whether in clinical practice or potential future conservation work, Vanessa’s passion for animal welfare remains the constant thread through all her professional aspirations.
Alisha
Receptionist
Alisha began her journey at Animal Veterinary Clinic as a Receptionist in June 2024, bringing with her the strong work ethic cultivated during her early days at her grandfather’s sawmill. That formative experience instilled in her the precision and diligence that now characterize her welcoming approach to client care.
From childhood, Alisha aspired to become a veterinarian, though she found equal inspiration in Winter, the remarkable bottlenose dolphin from Dolphin Tale. She frequently reflects on how Winter’s perseverance after losing her tail demonstrated that “a positive attitude during adversity leads to success” and that perceived imperfections can become one’s greatest strengths. These lessons continue to guide Alisha’s professional and personal outlook.
Outside the clinic, Alisha dreams of traveling to Alaska with her husband and their husky, Ruger, as well as swimming with dolphins—a bucket list item that pays homage to her aquatic inspiration. She operates by the valuable principle of listening more than speaking, an approach that enables her to provide exceptional service to both pets and their owners.
Alisha occasionally imagines an alternate path as a full-time dog mom and ranch hand. Yet whether at the reception desk or pursuing future adventures, she carries forward Winter’s legacy of resilience, proving that challenges met with determination can lead to unexpected opportunities.
Katilynn
Veterinary Assistant
Katilynn joined AVC as a Veterinary Assistant in September 2024, bringing her lifelong passion for animals to the clinic. Her professional journey began in an unexpected role – as a Prom and Bridal Consultant for 1.5 years – where she honed the customer service skills and attention to detail that now serve her well in veterinary medicine.
From the moment she watched Ferdinand the bull on screen, Katilynn recognized the kind of animal – and person – she wanted to be. Like her favorite animated character, she combines a gentle spirit with an infectious sense of humor, creating a warm environment for both patients and their owners. Her career path was set early – since second grade, Katilynn dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. While she’s found fulfillment as a Veterinary Assistant, her ambitions extend far beyond the clinic walls.
When not caring for animals, Katilynn dreams of grand adventures across all 50 states and beyond. Top destinations include the Houston Stock Show and Rodeo, Iceland’s Blue Lagoon, and the bioluminescent shores of the Maldives. “Never take any one moment for granted. Life is short and we are blessed with the time we have.” This philosophy informs her compassionate care for animals and her determination to experience all life has to offer.
Should she ever choose a different path, Katilynn would channel her love for animals into becoming a Beef Cattle Geneticist or Embryologist. But for now, she’s exactly where she wants to be – caring for animals while planning her next great adventure.
Abbey
Veterinary Assistant
Abbey joined the AVC team as a Veterinary Assistant in September 2024. Her professional journey began as a part-time Warehouse Associate during high school.
Abbey particularly inspired by George, the albino gorilla from Rampage – a character who combines surprising humor with heroic protectiveness, qualities Abbey strives to embody in her own life and work.
As a child, Abbey dreamed of becoming a detective, fascinated by solving mysteries. These days, her aspirations are more grounded: international travel and a home with land. She lives by the simple but powerful advice: “Don’t overthink it” – a mantra that’s helped her navigate both professional and personal challenges.
When asked about alternate career paths, Abbey jokes about trading for full-time pet parenting (or human parenting), imagining days filled with puppy cuddles and snack negotiations rather than emails. In veterinary medicine, Abbey admits there’s appeal in a simpler life surrounded by furry companions.
Riley
Veterinary Assistant and Receptionist
Riley has been an integral part of the AVC team since 2021, skillfully balancing dual roles as both Veterinary Assistant and Receptionist. Their professional journey began in outdoor education as a camp counselor, where they first developed the interpersonal skills that now serve them well in comforting anxious pet owners and coordinating clinic operations.
As a child, Riley dreamed of becoming an orthopedic surgeon, fascinated by how bodies move and heal. That same fascination extends to their admiration for Air Bud, the athletic golden retriever whose sports prowess represents Riley’s ideal combination of physical ability and intelligence. “A dog that can play sports? Best of both worlds!” they often say with characteristic enthusiasm.
Outside the clinic, Riley dreams of exploring Hawaii’s underwater wonders through snorkeling, drawn to the ocean’s mysteries much as they’re drawn to understanding animal physiology. They operate by the empowering mantra: “There are only two things you can control in life – your effort and your attitude,” a philosophy that shapes both their professional dedication and adventurous spirit.
Riley sometimes imagines channeling their scientific curiosity into marine biology. Yet in their current dual role, they’ve found the perfect outlet for their diverse talents – combining medical knowledge, administrative skill, and genuine compassion for both animals and their human companions.
Jordyn
Veterinary Nurse
Jordyn began her career at AVC in the fall of 2020 as a Veterinary Nurse, where her natural empathy and dedication quickly made her an invaluable team member. Her professional journey started at Hibbett Sports, where she developed the interpersonal skills that now help her comfort both animals and their owners.
Jordyn found inspiration in the beloved animal stars of Homeward Bound—Chance, Shadow, and Sassy—whose loyalty and adventurous spirits mirrored her own approach to life. While she never had a single dream job as a child (preferring the freedom of play), her career path ultimately led her to veterinary medicine—a perfect blend of purpose and joy.
Jordyn dreams of working in zoo rehabilitation medicine and taking her husband on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Japan. She lives by the motto: “Never be afraid to stand up for yourself and what you believe in,” a principle that guides her advocacy for animals and her own life choices.
Jordyn loves to travel the world with her family, combining her love of adventure with cherished moments together. Yet in veterinary nursing, she’s found a career that satisfies both her playful spirit and compassionate nature – proving you don’t have to stop being a kid at heart to make a difference in animals’ lives.
McKayla
Registered Veterinary Technician
McKayla joined the AVC team on May 27th, 2025, bringing with her a lifelong love for animals and a heart full of compassion. She got her start in the pet care world as a bather at Doggie D’ Tail, and her passion for working with animals has only grown since.
As a child, McKayla dreamed of becoming a zookeeper—fueled by a deep curiosity and care for animals of all kinds. If she could meet any famous animal actor, it would be Joey the horse from War Horse, whose bravery left a lasting impression on her.
When she’s not at work, McKayla enjoys life as a proud stay-at-home dog mom (in her dreams!) to her three rescues: Leah, a Husky mix; Kingston, a lively Pomeranian; and Peanut, a Pomeranian mix and lovable tripod.
Traveling to another country and exploring new places is at the top of her bucket list. And the best advice she’s ever received? “Stay true to yourself, and just be you.” It’s a philosophy McKayla brings to every part of her life—and we’re lucky to have her on our team.
Autumn
Receptionist
Autumn loves working in the veterinary industry because she loves animals and the bonds she makes with pets and their owners. If all jobs were paid the same salary, she would choose a career as a stay-at-home momma.
Autumn’s personality closely matches a cat – to a degree! Sometimes she’s super-sweet and cuddly, and sometimes feisty and annoyed. She is willing to spend more money on one thing to get the best quality: anything for her son, Waylon.
Outside of work, Autumn likes to spend time with her husband, Ryan, and son, Waylon. They love to go camping, go to the zoo, and do anything outside! She has two cats (Layla and Jettie) and three dogs (Gadsden the English Mastiff, Juneau the Australian Shepherd, and Mable the Aussiedoodle).
Jamie
Surgical Veterinary Assistant
Jamie began their career at AVC as a Surgical Veterinary Assistant in January 2025, bringing precision and dedication to the operating room. Their professional journey started in an unexpected place – a bowling alley, where they first developed the steady hands and focus that would later serve them well in veterinary surgery.
From childhood, Jamie knew she wanted to work in veterinary medicine. This passion extends to their admiration for animal actors, particularly Jerry, the clever Cairn Terrier from The Wizard of Oz, whose intelligence and spirit made a lasting impression.
Outside the clinic, Jamie seeks thrilling experiences, with shark diving at the top of their personal bucket list. They live by the powerful philosophy: “If you have a minimalist attitude, you’ll get minimal results” – a mindset that drives both their surgical excellence and adventurous spirit.
While completely committed to veterinary medicine, Jamie sometimes imagines an alternative path as a conservation biologist, combining their medical skills with wildlife protection. Whether in the operating room or the open ocean, Jamie approaches every challenge with the same determination and attention to detail that makes them an exceptional veterinary professional.
Megan
Kennel Attendant
Megan loves working in the veterinary industry because of her love for animals. If all jobs were paid the same salary, she would choose a career as a sports commentator.
Megan’s personality closely matches a chihuahua! She is willing to spend more money on one thing to get the best quality: shoes!
Outside of work, Megan likes to go camping with her husband and attend/watch baseball games. She has three dogs, one cat, and a bearded dragon.
Amanda
Treatment Team Member
Amanda loves working in the veterinary industry because she enjoys animals, animal husbandry, and owner education.
Amanda is willing to spend more money on one thing to get the best quality: shoes!
Outside of work, Amanda likes doing anything outside, riding horses, traveling, and reading. She has various animals, including donkeys, goats, horses, long-horn cattle, dogs, and cats.
Jami
Veterinary Assistant
Jami joined the AVC team as a Veterinary Assistant in September 2018, bringing her lifelong passion for animal care to the clinic. Her professional journey began in a completely different environment – serving up frozen yogurt to happy customers, where she first developed her customer service skills and cheerful demeanor.
As a child, Jami dreamed of becoming a veterinarian, inspired by animals’ unconditional love. This childhood aspiration still shows in her work today, though she’s particularly fond of one famous animal actor – Air Bud. Having grown up watching all of the basketball-playing golden retriever’s films, she admires how the character embodied loyalty and perseverance, qualities she strives to emulate in her own life.
Outside of work, Jami challenges herself with ambitious goals, including training to run a marathon. She approaches this – and all aspects of life – with the valuable advice she’s adopted as her personal motto: “Look for the positives and focus on them.” This optimistic outlook serves her well both in caring for animals and tackling personal challenges.
While completely dedicated to her veterinary work, Jami occasionally ponders alternative careers, though she admits she’s found such fulfillment in her current role that it’s hard to imagine doing anything else. Her genuine enjoyment of her work shines through in her daily interactions with both animals and their owners.
Cathy
Receptionist
Cathy has been the welcoming face of AVC since May 2000, when she first joined as a receptionist. Her professional journey began at a local car wash, where she learned the value of hard work and attention to detail – skills that now serve her well in managing the clinic’s busy front desk.
As a child, Cathy aspired to become a nurse, drawn to helping others – a compassionate impulse that still guides her interactions with concerned pet owners today. She particularly admired Lassie, the intelligent collie whose loyalty and protective instincts mirrored the qualities Cathy herself brings to patient care.
While completely dedicated to her work at AVC, Cathy dreams of one day visiting Jamaica’s tropical shores. She lives by the practical wisdom that “the grass isn’t always greener on the other side,” appreciating the meaningful relationships she’s built with the clinic.
Through her longevity and genuine care for both animals and their owners, Cathy has become an indispensable part of the AVC family, proving that sometimes the most rewarding careers are those we grow into rather than plan for.
Megan
Office Manager/Critical Care Coordinator
Megan relationship with AVC began decades before she officially became Office Manager in July 2003. Her first job at just eight years old – cleaning kennel cages for $1 an hour – laid the foundation for what would become her professional home. However her first “outside” job from AVC working as server at a local bar/restaurant gave her the people skills that now make her exceptional at her role.
As a child fascinated by talking animals like Babe the Pig and Alvin’s Chipmunks, Megan developed an early appreciation for character and communication. This childhood wonder translated into a series of dream careers – from actress to pediatrician to radio host to jewelry designer to kindergarten teacher – each reflecting different creative spirit and desire to connect with others.
Megan plans adventures trips across Japan, Germany, and the islands of Melanesia. She lives by the pragmatic advice: “It’s easier to ask forgiveness than permission” – a philosophy that’s served her well in both professional innovation and personal growth.
Outside the clinic, Megan would jump at the chance to be Dolly Parton’s personal assistant – a role combining her organizational superpowers with her love of music and big personalities.
Dr. Rebecca Rudisell
Veterinarian
Dr. Rebecca Rudisell began her journey at AVC as an Associate Veterinarian in June 2024, bringing a unique blend of analytical thinking and heartfelt care to her practice. Before discovering her veterinary calling, she developed her talent for explaining complex concepts as a chemistry tutor.
Her childhood fascination with Trigger, liked cowboys when Rebecca was growing up. Early love for animals that would eventually blossom into her veterinary career. Unlike many children who cycle through dream jobs, Rebecca maintained singular focus on becoming a veterinarian from an early age, demonstrating remarkable determination.
Beyond the clinic, Rebecca looks forward to visit Gettysburg. She lives by the empowering philosophy: “Never trust your fears – they don’t know your strength,” words that have guided her through professional challenges and personal growth alike.
Outside the clinic, Rebecca occasionally indulges in imagining an alternate path as a writer, where she could combine her scientific knowledge with storytelling. Yet in her current role, she’s found the perfect synthesis of her talents – the precision of a chemist, the compassion of a healer, and the imagination that might one day fill bookshelves.
Dr. James Holscher
Veterinarian
Dr. Holscher began his journey at AVC in 1983, taking on whatever tasks needed doing in those early days – a fitting start for a man whose first job had been caring for chickens. This hands-on beginning shaped his practical approach to veterinary medicine.
As a child, James dreamed of careers as varied as the animals he’d later treat: jockey, cowboy, dog trainer, even astronaut. But it was Old Yeller—the iconic canine actor whose performance moved him to tears—that hinted at his true calling. Decades later, he still admires the loyalty and heart animals bring to their roles, both onscreen and in life.
Outside his veterinary work, Dr. Holscher dreams of self-sufficient living. His bucket list includes building a fishing dock on his pond, installing a windmill for aeration, and creating an off-grid energy system. These projects reflect his lifelong appreciation for practical solutions and connection to the land.
He lives by the motto: “Keep your chin in the air but not your nose, and a smile on your face wherever you goes” – wisdom that guides both his professional interactions and personal philosophy. Though excelling as a veterinarian, he sometimes imagines alternate paths as a farmer or medical doctor, careers that similarly blend problem-solving with care for living things.
Dr. Troy Lowdermilk
Veterinarian
Dr. Troy Lowdermilk has been providing compassionate care as a veterinarian at AVC since 2010. His journey with animals began at 16 working on a hog farm, where he developed both his work ethic and lasting appreciation for agricultural life. While he ultimately chose veterinary medicine, part of him still imagines an alternate life as a full-time farmer – perhaps raising show pigs or working the land.
Dr. Troy admires Rafiki from The Lion King, appreciating the sense of humor and was wise and respected. Funny enough, Troy originally dreamed of being a full-time farmer, and that love for farm life never left me. When not treating animals, he dreams of finally taking that California vacation (though his family somehow always convinces him to visit Jamaica or Florida instead).
The best advice that guides him? ‘Don’t just plan to live – really live.’ That’s why even as an accomplished veterinarian if Troy weren’t a vet, you’d find him raising show pigs or working in the land – because at the end of the day, whether it’s medicine or farming, what matters is doing what you love with your whole heart.
Dr. JIM HOLSCHER
Veterinarian
Dr. Jim Holscher chose this profession many years ago because he felt it would be interesting and challenging. It has proven to be both. He considers himself lucky to have a job that, for the most part, is a pleasure and doesn’t really feel like “work.” If all jobs were paid the same salary, he would choose a career as a part-time practicing DVM and a full-time Pop.
Dr. Holscher’s personality closely matches an Irish Wolfhound (quiet, loyal, and mellow). He is willing to spend more money on two things to get the best quality: socks and underwear.
Outside of work, Dr. Holscher likes to play “farm” with his grandkids. He has a variety of animals, including one indoor cat (Zeb), too many barn cats to name, two dogs (Babe, the four-year-old Rat Terrier, and Gal, the one-year-old Boston Terrier), goats (Saanan, Alpine, and LaMancha, approx. 25), beef cattle (approx. 20), and chickens (approx. 20).
